Market Recap – Week Ahead

The General Elections in Spain were once again won by the Socialist Party without securing Parliamentary majority. Out of the 350 seats, the Socialists won 120 seats (3 fewer than the April’s elections), the Conservatives won 88 (up from 66 seats) and the far-right, anti-European Vox party doubled its seats (52 seats now, 24 seats in April). The left Podemos won 35 seats and the liberal Ciudadanos got crashed (10 seats now, 57 in April)

The week includes (i) the President Xi visit in Greece that has started yesterday (ii) the Paris Peace Forum, initiated by President Emmanuel Macron, that begins on Tuesday (iii) an expected decision from President Trump. He is supposed to announce his intentions on taxing EU carst. Junker has stated that no tariffs will be imposed. (iv) On Thursday, OPEC publishes its monthly report on oil.

US earnings: Tilray on Tuesday, Cisco on Wednesday

Macro releases: The Chinese inflation moved higher. Today’s focus turns to the UK GDP, Manufacturing Production, and Goods Trade Balance. Full economic calendar is here.
